The Portuguese American Citizenship Project
The Portuguese American Citizenship Project is a civil rights campaign - we are neither Republican nor Democrat. The goal is simply and only to encourage Portuguese Americans to become U.S. citizens, to register to vote and, last but not least, to exercise their right to vote.
A great deal has been accomplished and we want to do much more.
Since 1999, the Portuguese American Citizenship Project has been exclusively funded by the Luso American Foundation. The Foundation not only directly supported the activities of the Project’s Coordinator but it has also provided over 25 matching grants to community organizations and communities who are engaged in citizenship, voter registration and non-partisan get-out-the vote campaigns.
After ten years of this assistance, it is time for us to stand on our own. In order to continue our work, we need to raise funds from U.S. foundations, from government grants and from the Portuguese American community. You can help by providing financial support for our activities throughout the United States or you can request some or all of your donation be dedicated to your local community. All donations, large or small, for either purpose help.
All general funds raised will pay for the recruitment and salary of a Project Coordinator and for temporary administrative assistance to complete essential data processing and preparation of voter cards and reports. Funds dedicated to the local community will be transmitted through our central tax exempt account to the respective local committees.
